A home run montage in MLB The Show 26 skips the frustrating part: inning after inning of late swings, weak grounders, and barely moving a total bases objective. Spending MLB 26 stubs on another power hitter will not automatically fix that pattern. The useful question is where your progress stalls: are you swinging at pitches you cannot drive, or building a lineup that makes solid contact too difficult.

Count the Bases That Actually Matter

Total bases measure the value of your hits, not how far your runners eventually travel. Singles count for one, doubles for two, triples for three, and home runs for four. Walks and hit-by-pitches add nothing to this statistic.

Stealing second after a single does not turn that hit into two total bases. Neither does advancing on a teammate's hit. This distinction matters because unnecessary running risks can cost you outs without improving the objective.

If an objective requires 50 total bases, five doubles provide the same progress as ten singles. You are looking for repeatable extra-base contact, not a home run on every swing. Before committing to a session, read the mission requirements and confirm that your chosen mode and hitters qualify.

Stop Letting the Count Choose Your Pitch

The biggest efficiency drain is swinging at a pitch simply because it looks reachable. A strike near the edge can still be a poor pitch to drive. Early in the count, give yourself permission to leave those pitches alone.

Pick a location you can cover comfortably, then watch how the pitcher attacks it. Avoid moving your PCI toward every possible pitch before release; that turns recognition into guessing.

◆ With no strikes, prioritize a pitch in your preferred hitting area.

◆ When ahead in the count, keep your target selective rather than chasing a bigger swing.

◆ With two strikes, widen your coverage without treating every ball as a strike.

A normal swing is a sensible starting point when your main problem is inconsistent contact. Do not assume selecting a power swing will rescue poor timing or placement. Judge the approach by the contact you produce across several innings, not one impressive result.

Build Around the Contact You Can Repeat

Your best total bases lineup is not necessarily the one with the most intimidating power numbers. A hitter you consistently square up can be more useful than a stronger card whose timing you never settle into.

Use contact-oriented hitters to keep innings alive, then place your reliable contact-and-power options where they can sustain those rallies. Runners do not multiply a batter's total bases, but fewer empty plate appearances help preserve productive innings.

When choosing an upgrade, identify the problem first. Frequent strikeouts suggest a different need from well-timed balls that rarely reach the gaps. Change one lineup spot at a time so you can tell whether the replacement actually helps.

Take the Double Without Giving Away the Inning

Gap contact is valuable because it can produce two bases without demanding home run power. Watch the nearest outfielder and the developing throw before deciding to stretch a hit. Speed helps, but it does not make every extra base worth attempting.

For MLB The Show 26 total bases progress, keep the approach simple: qualify your lineup, wait for hittable pitches, and protect productive innings. If you are considering cheap MLB The Show 26 Stubs for upgrades, identify a specific lineup weakness first rather than treating another purchase as a substitute for better at-bats.
